Skin Cancer

Prior to developing true skin cancer there is something called a pre-cancer or actinic keratoses.  These are very commonly found on sun damaged areas such as the scalp, face and ears, upper chest and neck, arms and hands.  They are fairly small, often rough and raised off of the skin.  There is normally some slight redness at the base and often when scratched there is increased sensitivity or slight pain.  These require a visit to our office and can easily be removed with cryotherapy or even topical medications.  These are pre-cursors to squamous cell carcinoma, a true skin cancer.

The 2 most common types of TRUE skin cancers are: squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma.  These are more serious, but are curable if detected early.  For more information please call and schedule an appointment, or go to one of the links on your left.
